The island’s green heart

Jarabacoa, deep in the Central Mountain Range, is the Dominican Republic’s mountain destination par excellence. Known as the city of eternal spring for its cool year-round climate, it is a total contrast to the Caribbean beaches: pine forests, cold-water rivers, waterfalls and pure highland air.

It is the gateway to Pico Duarte, the Caribbean’s highest mountain at 3,087 meters, whose ascent is a multi-day adventure attracting mountaineers from around the world.

Jarabacoa is synonymous with adventure sports: rafting on the Yaque del Norte, the country’s mightiest river; hiking to the Jimenoa and Baiguate waterfalls; paragliding over the valleys; canyoning and horseback rides through the mountains.
