Punta Cana, on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, is the country’s most famous destination and one of the most visited in the Caribbean. Its name instantly evokes miles of white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, palm trees leaning over the sea and an endless row of world-class all-inclusive resorts.

What is now an international tourism hub began in the 1970s as a pioneering ecotourism project. Within a few decades, Bavaro and Punta Cana became the engine of Dominican tourism, with their own international airport welcoming millions of visitors each year.

Sabores del Caribe frente al mar

En Punta Cana la cocina gira en torno al mar: pescados y mariscos recién capturados, ceviches frescos con leche de coco y el clásico pescado frito con tostones. En los resorts todo incluido conviven la alta cocina internacional con platos criollos como el mofongo, la yuca al mojo y el sancocho dominicano, un guiso de varias carnes que se reserva para ocasiones especiales.

No dejes de probar la mamajuana, una infusión de ron, vino y hierbas locales, ni los cócteles tropicales preparados con frutas de la zona: chinola (maracuyá), guanábana y coco fresco.
